"My father usually purchases his insurance policies online. However, for this trip, he chose to visit this State Farm office in person because he wanted to make absolutely sure he would be covered while driving in Mexico. He clearly explained that he would be traveling to Mexico for approximately three months and specifically asked whether the truck would be covered there. He was told that it would be, so he purchased full coverage based on that information.

During the trip, my father was kidnapped, and his truck was stolen. Thankfully, he survived, but after everything he went through, State Farm denied the claim based on a 50 mile limitation from the U.S. border. In my opinion, this was an obvious error and omission during the sale of the policy. Had this important limitation been clearly explained, my father would have purchased the appropriate coverage for his trip instead of relying on a policy that did not protect him where he intended to travel.

We tried to resolve the matter directly with the agency, but our concerns about the missing disclosure were never meaningfully addressed. This entire situation could have been avoided if the coverage limitations had been clearly explained from the beginning."
